  1. The Real Solution to the Einstein test:
Are you sure that the German has a FISH ? Isn't it possible for him to have a TIGER ? Who say that the fifth per should be a fish ?

  2. Poorly worded logic puzzle. "First" house?
"to the left of"? Be specific.

  3. It's Albert Einstein who wrote this. You can't blame him for not being ground specific. And by the way
    puzzles are confusing anyways.

  4. Anon... all the info you need to solve the puzzle is presented.

We have a first house, a center house, houses next to one another, etc... maybe, just maybe, there are five houses in a row?

Anywho, the German lives in the 4th house, which is Green. He drinks coffee, smokes Prince, and is the keeper of fish.

  5. The way I did it

Make a 6x6 table in excel with rows of Number, Colour, Nationality, Pet, Drink, Cigar and columns of 1,2,3,4,5

    ------------------------------------------------
    |Number....|..1..|..2..|..3..|..4..|..5..|
    ------------------------------------------------
    |Colour......|.....|.....|......|......|.....|
    ------------------------------------------------
    |Nationality.|.....|.....|......|......|.....|
    ------------------------------------------------
    |Pet.........|.....|.....|......|......|.....|
    ------------------------------------------------
    |Drink.......|.....|.....|......|......|.....|
    ------------------------------------------------
    |Cigar.......|.....|.....|......|......|.....|
    ------------------------------------------------

Draw more tables with the facts you know. For the first column of those tables keep the same headings as above (Number, Colour, Nationality, Pet, Drink, Cigar) but only keep the headings you know facts for or headings between the headings you know facts for. For the 2nd column, use the facts you know.

    e.g.
    -----------------------
    |Colour......|.Red.|
    -----------------------
    |Nationality.|.Brit|
    -----------------------

    and

    ------------------------
    |Nationality.|.Dane.|
    ------------------------
    |Pet.........|........|
    ------------------------
    |Drink.......|..Tea..|
    ------------------------

If you have more than one possibility, e.g. "The man who smokes Blend lives next to the one who keeps cats", make a table with both possibilities. If there's more than 2 possibilities include then. E.g. if you also add "The man who smokes Blend has a neighbour who drinks water" you get which will end up with one "cats" and one "water" being removed eventually

    ---------------------------------------------
    |Pet.........|..cats?..|........|..cats?..|
    ---------------------------------------------
    |Drink.......|.water?.|........|.water?.|
    ---------------------------------------------
    |Cigar.......|..........|.blend.|.........|
    ---------------------------------------------

On the same sheet, write out all the rules. Liink the ones that have bits in common by making them the same colour (4 and 5, 7 and 11, 9 and 14)

On the 1st table, fill in facts you know and that can't be wrong. E.g. Norwegian has to go in column 1

Save the excel doc and then start copy and pasting the sub tables into the 1st table. When you copy them leave the first column (headings) behind as you've already got them in the 1st table. Try do the linked statments first e.g. 9 and 14. If the Norwegian is in house 1 and he's next to a blue house then the blue house must be house 2 (assume they're all in a straight line). Try do the multiple possibilities next e.g. "The man who smokes Blend lives next to the one who keeps cats" They can fit in a few places but if you fit them in a place and then start adding the other sub tables you've made, soon you come across an impossibility e.g. you've left with a sub table with two items one above the other and on the master table there are no spaces for those two items to go in one above the other. When you come across an impossibility back track and try the other combination you could have put the initial sub table in.
If you use excel and a bit of copy and paste you'll have the solution pretty quickly (10 mins)
