Internet is the best possible example.Everyone has to feed their innate need to be heard & valued.If you have been a close observer of the Internet,you might have noticed that with the evolution of the web to what has been termed "web 2.0"(a collective term for social networks,blogs etc),once a perpetual knowledge machine transformed into an overloaded senseless junk.Internet is not a information database anymore,moreover it has become what could be called - "opinion bank".

Realistically speaking,I dont think i can change the internet,i am nobody in a world wide web where people jam the servers of papparazi sites/porn sites and call the world sick.I don't think we live in an age where word jugglery could give either "pleasure to the eye-balls" or "food for the soul".Although i would not like to quit without giving a shot either.I believe that if you talk sensible stuff,sooner or later you will get noticed by people who understand sensible stuff.I write blogs,i do tweets and i publish ideas on my facebook updates.I cater a small but intelligent audience in whose mind my ideas reverb.I truly understand the power of an idea as every tremendous feats we have reached so far where once unachievable and the only thing that fueled them were those simple ideas.That is exactly what i wish to fight for.Original people with original ideas.Happy writing.

9.Visit a cancer center. You will see the people who were lesser fortunate with life. That can make you value what you have more.

And about saving album photos.Orkut disabled the right click on album photos and hence you cannot save using the right click option.I think that this kind of some imposition is unnecessary as there is the 'Lock album' feature for those who want to protect their photos.There are many hacks to this.

1.If you use firefox.Direct to the album page.Go Tools>Page Info>Media>Point to the image from the list>Save as.Ooh la la.

2.Easier method.Drag the image to the address bar which will in turn show the address of the image.Hit go and the image will appear where you can right click and save.

3.Take screen shot.Hit print screen key on your key board.Open up a new file in MSpaint and click Cntrl+V.Or you can use modern screencapture tools like Snagit or Faststone.

Feedburner Pro Features Now "Free"

First major change on Feedburner after Google acquired it,is here.And what a better way than to give away Pro feature like Total stats and Mybrand for free.

FeedBurner Stats PRO or Total stats allows you to have advance stats about your site feed, such as number of people who have viewed or clicked individual content items in your feed, as well as site visitors stats.

Here is how you can activate this feature

1. Sign in your FeedBurner account

2. Select the FeedBurner feed you want to activate for Feedburner Stats PRO

3. Under Analyze tab, click FeedBurner Stats PRO link under Services

4. At FeedBurner Stats PRO page, tick the “Item views PRO” checkbox to activate the PRO services

5. Click the “Save” button to confirm and activate the FeedBurner Stats PRO services.

6. Done. You will see a little PRO icon near the feed on your FeedBurner “My Feeds” list.

MyBrand allows you to use own domain name for FeedBurner feed. Example: feeds.yourdomain.com, instead of feeds.feedburner.com. Using MyBrand does not affect your feed stats. It only make your feed address consistent to your website address.It is a tough nut to crack for non techies as it needs you to make changes in dns records.However these are the steps you need to carry out for setting this up.

1. Sign in your FeedBurner account and click the “My Account” link in the upper left-corner.

2. At My Account page, click the “MyBrand PRO” link under Services

3. This is the hard part. Create a CNAME entry in the DNS records for each domain name you want to use. Then, fill in the domain name(s) to use.

Note: you need to know to configure CNAME for your domain name’s DNS records. You can refer to the Google Apps for Administrators to create CNAME record on popular hosting services, or ask your domain/web hosting provider’s help.

4. Click “Activate” button to save and activate it. It will take up to 24 hours for the CNAME to take effect.

PR update rumours have once again started and are becoming subjects of hot discussion at popular forums.Most of them are predicting latter half of July to be the period when google servers will renew link counts.If you can't wait till the update to know what is in store for you,use some PR predictor tool.There are plenty of them online.My favourite is the Iwebtool.It is predicting a PR4 for me.While i am not perfectly happy with a PR4 my aim will be to get as many quality links as possible in the coming days.

A quick tip for using Iwebtool.If you are a blogspot blogger don't include www.An interesting prediction i have been able to track down will be useful for those who are fighting it out for #1 position for 'Make Money Online'.Problogger.net is predicted to acquire a PR7 from PR6 and Johnchow.com might loose its PR6 and will be given a PR5.Dosh Dosh is expected to promoted 2 PR up to PR6.

Looks like the latest buzz in the blogging lounge is viral linking.One after another new viral links are starting.And it's only great.Because at the end of the day only links matter.Here's one more method started by The Thinking Blog.

1.) Upload your non-animated favicon (GIF image of size 16x16 pixels) to ImageShack, of to a similar free image hosting server like Photobucket, or to your own server provided by your hosting service if you have one.

2.) Substitute the Host Icon and one of the "Viral Icons" in the matrix with your ALT text of choice and your blog’s URL. Maximum of 3 specific keywords for the ALT text are best for it to be effective. You can do this by going over to the HTML mode of your blogging platform. Don't be confused! You're doing the same as our first Viral Links system, but this time you're just doing it with image icons. Just follow the code and add the URL that points to your blog, and your image. Real simple!

3.) When you get a ping back from someone that has your icon in one of their "Viral Icons" matrix, practice good karma by copying his/her Host Icon's code (automatically the associated ALT tag will also be copied) and paste it over one of your “Viral Icons” below.

7.Casting the spell of words without making it look like a scam.Consider the case of a story in hand which is a genuine article on 'Making money online'.No one is going to even look into it for a second because they are programmed to not to go inside,thanks to those millions of spam messages set free everyday to fill inboxes.But you have to make them look into and read it and here's how you can.Make a selfless title which says it all in a conversational style.

Do's
Example: [main substance]:[conversation]
Make money online:"Ban me from [..add] if this is a scam."
Money making secrets:"Don't make a fault this time."

Don't bother about the style,it's not your issue just.What your issue is that will the readers click it or not.The certainly would because the title is simply c-u-r-i-o-u-s.

8.Announce the story or Tell the story.There are two ways of sharing a story you can either tell it or announce it.While telling will add a personal touch,announcing the story too may work sometimes.But if you don't want to be a radio and sound like one way communication tell the story.Especially when you're breaking a story.

Telling----------- Bush Says Blah Blah Blah

By telling a story you are inviting participation and that's of course what you want.

9.Understandability and complexity.This is something i tell my readers very often.If you want more people to read your stuff,make it easy for them to understand.Don't give them a feeling of "Lost".Simplicity has its own language.Create
a spicy title with simple words.

10 Writing Tips For Bloggers

There are a few things you should consider while making efforts to create flagship content.Here are some of those worth mentioning ones.Feel free to add your own points into it.

1.Write in an audience friendly style.Your aim is not to show off your
word power but to get regular readers who will come back for some content
they can understand.Simplicity attracts everyone.

2.Use sarcasm here & there.Especially when you feel you're going too deep or
technical.A small dose of sarcasm will refresh the reader's mind.He will be
receptive for more after it.

3.Be a versatile writer.Mention subjects or events outside your genre.But there is
a catch here.Don't go too far into areas of less expertise.There are chances of you appearing superficial.So use this tip wisely.

4.Write using positive words.Even if you're attacking some other writer,try not to show regret in your words.Use humour instead.

5.Before penning down controversial pieces choose your stand.If you're advocating someone or criticizing someone be ready for unpleasant responses.

6.When length posts are the product remember to break it down into short paragraphs.It shouldn't look monotonous.Use tip 2.

7.Try not to be repetitive.Try not to use the same catchy words again and again.It's true with the content also.For example if you're writing an article on "Google's acquisition of xyz",don't write like this:

Google acquired xyz,....................Before Google acquired xyz...,It was rumoured that Google will acquire xyz.

Your readers are not dumb.You don't need to be so clear.Instead you can use phrases
or sentences like:..........Before this deal.......,This event was rumoured to happen etc..

8.Look at the big picture,always.Don't get deviated from what you set out to say.So read the whole article a couple of times before you post it and make suitable changes.

9.Know[plan] the end and finish it will.It's genuinely stylish.And end is equally important as a beginning.

10.Don't let typos in.They are the worst enemies and a universal tunr-off [i'm making a point here :)].Thank those who made spell-check and start using it from today.

For firefox users

One of the reasons i have been sticking with firefox for a while is the large pool of add-ons they have on their site.They help me get things done without using any external tool.One among such is Download helper.It traces any flv,ram,mpg,mpeg,avi,rm,wmv,mov,asf,mp3 content embedded on a page and gives a download link to that file.And yes it works with Youtube flag videos to.Not only Youtube but with all other video sharing sites including Dailymotion and Eyespot.
You can get Download helper add-on from here.
If you haven't got firefox yet,this is the perfect reason to get it.

For non-firefox users
--------------------------------
This is slightly time consuming at least for once.The alternative to Download helper is a lightweight software called Tubegrab.It is available for download at Techrepublic but to download it you have to go through a one time registration.This downloads Youtube flagged ones only.You can get Tubegrab from here.

A hoax experiment and some story crafting

Last week i was reading an article on a popular virus hoax on the internet.Something in that caught my mind.For a couple of days i was wondering about "How a hoax gets spread and what makes it believable?".After referring some more resources i reached to a conclusion that crafting of the story was one of the factors that determined the success of a hoax.But the most important aspect of it was the audience.How does an audience behave to a hoax?I was now fed up with referring and decided to craft one and experience the behaviour.Not being a creative genius caused idea hindrances.Greasemonkey seemed to be the last resort.And i crafted a hoax.

The ingredients of a perfect hoax

A popular tycoon (eg:Google) to attack on.
Assistance of facts and figures.
Catchy titles and description.
A hoax receptive audience.

The final ingredient was my point of research.And from the results i found this.

40% will digest it.
30% will get contradicted.
30% will get the catch.
From that 30%,10% will respond.

And who spreads the plague?
The contradicted 30%.They spread the stuff.They discuss it in forums,forward the mails and this way a successful hoax is born.And a funny aspect is that some of them would even link to the story.Ooh la la.
